The Best Time of Year to Buy Each Product Category on Amazon

Timing your purchase right can save you 20 to 40 percent on electronics, appliances, and more. Here is when prices actually drop for each major category.

Why Trust ToucanFinds

Every product recommendation on ToucanFinds comes from applying our 6-point quality filter to Amazon's full catalog: minimum 4.2 stars, 50+ reviews, Prime-eligible, US warehouse, no China-direct shipping, and a seller quality check. No brands pay us for placement. We only earn when you buy — which means we are motivated to show you products worth buying. See our full methodology.

Amazon runs sales year round, but not all sales are equal. Some categories drop dramatically in price at predictable times of year. Others barely move. Knowing which is which can save you real money on purchases you were planning to make anyway.

Here is when each major category actually sees its best prices.

Electronics and laptops: July and November

Amazon Prime Day in July is the biggest electronics sale of the year — typically mid-July, running one to two days. Laptops, tablets, headphones, and smart home devices often see their lowest prices of the year during this window.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday in late November are the second wave. New model releases in the fall mean last-year models drop significantly. If you do not need the latest generation, buying a previous-year laptop in November can save $150 to $300.

Kitchen appliances: October to December

Stand mixers, air fryers, coffee makers, and other kitchen appliances are popular gift items, which means they get promotional pricing from October through December. The week before Thanksgiving and the week after are particularly strong for this category.

Instant Pots specifically tend to hit annual lows in November. Blenders and coffee makers follow a similar pattern. If you can wait, buying kitchen appliances in the fall rather than spring or summer typically saves 20 to 30 percent.

Fitness equipment: January and after Prime Day

Yoga mats, weights, resistance bands, and fitness accessories see two price troughs: January (after the New Year resolution rush passes and retailers discount leftover inventory) and mid-summer following Prime Day.

Exercise bikes and treadmills tend to drop in late winter and early spring when the initial New Year interest fades.

Vacuum cleaners and home appliances: May

The spring cleaning season drives sales of vacuums and home cleaning products, but it also creates promotional pressure. Many vacuum and home appliance deals appear in May, before Prime Day.

Robot vacuums specifically tend to hit good prices in May and again in July during Prime Day.

When timing does not matter

Some categories do not see significant seasonal pricing: consumables (paper goods, cleaning supplies, personal care), books, and many clothing basics. For these, buy when you need them.

Also worth noting: Amazon's "Lightning Deals" and limited-time discounts appear year round and are not always tied to major sales events. Checking ToucanFinds regularly means you see filtered, quality-checked results and can catch when a product you were considering drops in price.
